In the middle of this pandemic, on a weekend of unrest all the tears I’ve been crying lately came home and became personal. Old age caught up with my little dog even as I tried to hide her behind a screen of prescriptions, probiotics and pumpkin. Olive is gone and my heart is broken.
A Boston Terrier who lives to fourteen has had a good run, so they say. But I wanted more – more cuteness, more attitude, more love, more time. My little dog saw me through the darkest days of my life. She never faltered she leaned in. I know I won’t cry forever but I’m going to miss her for at least that long.
I took this picture on one of our walks last week – I’d noticed the little flower that had pushed its way through a crack in the concrete to bloom like the crazy, strong, fragile thing that it is. I thought I would write a blog about determination, resilience and strength. Well I’m writing that blog but it isn’t about a pansy – it’s about that adorable little dog, my friend and my heart.
Sometimes doing the right thing is the toughest thing.
❤️❤️❤️
my heart is filled with blessings for you both

Hi Elva,
Very sad to hear about Olive… The hardest thing I have ever done is putting an animal down, but stopping the suffering is the loving thing to do. It’s little consolation, but you’ve done right by her. I’ll be thinking of you.
