The ocean was choppy. Remnants of a retreating storm hung heavy in clouds resting on the horizon. The day wasn’t exactly dull as it seemed introspective – weather can be like that here on our coast, indecisive. Across the bay Washington State sat in shadows as waves plucked its’ coast in the same fashion our was being pestered. Nothing was extraordinary about the view – the world was waking up in the usual fashion of a November morning – but beyond the view everything was changed.

The US election is finally over – it is decided yet disputed and the country remains divided. The lid is still on the pressure cooker for the moment but the potential for trouble simmers. It’s come to light that the issues down south aren’t as cut and dried as I thought. I believed Trump was an accidental president – I was wrong. After four years of shenanigans almost half of Americans still think he’s a good idea. I don’t understand.

Like a lot of Canadians my politics lean left of center and this adds to the confusion I feel about the problems across the line. I realize Americans are not Canadians but I’ve always thought we had similar ideals and values, I thought we were kissing cousins.

You can’t distinguish a Democrat from a Republican just by looking at them. The same holds true here – Liberals and Conservatives cross paths every day with nary a second glance. Political ideals have to be spoken to be disagreed with – politics must become a verb to make waves.

The mood in The States is tense, I can feel it from here. That accidental president has stirred up a storm – division has been given a voice and the voice is demanding to be heard.

As happens after a storm clouds give way to blue skies. By afternoon the weather here had made a decision – the ocean reflected glimmers of an ordinary fall day. The water settled and the bay glittered. The landscape across the bay basked in the same light and calm returned. Here’s hoping.
