I’m weary of the 2019 race for prime minister, thankfully the finish line is in sight. I don’t know why anyone would want to run for office – what could be worse than being criticized, ostracized and scrutinized day after day for weeks on end only to win the hot seat in parliament.

Politics isn’t about party platforms anymore, it’s personal – a politician’s entire life is under a microscope, a teenage gaff can cost them the election. I can’t think of a damn thing that would inspire me to throw my hat into that arena and yet people do.

We are in last leg of the race – mud slinging has amped up. All the skeletons have been pulled from closets, exposed and tromped on, voters are tripping on old bones.  And now the race is being muddied by false claims – all the parties are trying to poke last minute holes in the opposition – as if there wasn’t enough actual stuff to talk about.

Monday will roll around and Canadians will make their way to the polls (at least those who feel voting is an obligation not just a right to be taken for granted).  They will scratch their X on a ballot, place their vote in the ballet box and head home to await the results.  Some people will chew their nails as the votes are counted, they will be glued to the television like the Stanley Cup is on the line.  Others will wait for the headlines on Tuesday morning.

This is election is predicted to be a squeaker, a horse race with a photo finish, it could make for exciting reporting.  There will be predictions and graphs and maps – news anchors will stay up until every last poll has been counted. And on Tuesday morning Canada will be represented as it has always been, by people who have the best intentions, who care about the country and were brave enough to step up to the plate and take one for the team – our team, The Canadians.

I have never been so ashamed of being a Canadian as when I watched them yell and cut each other down showing their rudeness when watching them on TV. It’s like the US has invaded our politicians with their political idiocy. Don’t get me wrong I lived for 13 years in the States and I have family and friends there but this whole ‘yell over each other’makes me not want to vote any of the trash into parliament.

Penny – I hear you. It seems to get more aggressive with each election. I will be glad when we can get back to our regular scheduled programs!
