Spring ahead, Fall back – the value of an hour

I put an hour into a savings account in the spring.  The hour has  been quietly sitting in the bank like a term deposit earning interest for these past months.  I got to cash it in today.

Over the summer my particular one hour investment tripled in value:

  • I cashed my first hour when I opened my eyes this morning – the alarm clock announced it was 8:30, with my withdrawal from the term deposit I adjusted the time to 7:30 and congratulated myself for getting a decent start on a dreary Sunday morning.
  • I went about my morning routine and found a second hour when I re-heated my coffee in the microwave. 9:20 became 8:20. And again I felt chuffed for being productive so early in the day.
  • the third hour showed up in the car but I decided to leave it there. I find it easier to make a mental adjustment when I get in the car than try to figure out how to change the clock. The automobile hour will be the surprise that keeps on giving until I re-invest it next spring.

By supper time tonight the only hour that will mean anything anymore is the one the dogs have cashed. The clock will say 4pm, they will try and convince me it’s 5:00, and we will argue about dog dinner for thirty minutes before they win.  They don’t see the same value in a found hour as I do.

Beautiful. It put a smile on my face. I feel as though I have had the best gift this am. Like skipping classes without the guilt. Yippee. Les

Now I am feeling hard-done-by as I only got one extra hour. Though I perhaps I should pop down to the car to see if there’s another lurking there.
