We are heading to Disneyland in a few sleeps. We are going to spend a week with the Mouse and the magic. We are going with my daughter and her family – all six of us are gearing up to have the best time. We are going to have some serious fun. Seriously.
Disneyland has played host to some of my favorite family memories. I’m thrilled that our kids grew up to want to recreate the magic for the next generation – and even more thrilled that I get to partake in it again. We love The Land.
I’m always taken a little aback when I hear people talk about The Land in less than glowing terms. When line length and crowds trump the pixie dust and glitter. I think what some people forget is that the Magic Kingdom is only magic if you bring your own (BYOM). Magic is an attitude, magic is magnetic – it attracts itself. A bad attitude in Disneyland garners the same experience as a bad attitude anywhere else. You have to bring the magic with you – I’m bringing a six pack of the stuff.
Fun holds an important place in our lives – my husband and I have always believed in investing in memories. Our investment portfolio is varied and full, it only increases in value with the passage of time. Where the country’s economy may fluctuate, our investments are secure and pay dividends on a regular basis. We have set ourselves up for the rest of our lives.
A good memory doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg – you can make them at home, in your own backyard, for free. We have a treasure chest full of cheap and priceless ones mixed in with the grand and pricey – once the memory is in the chest its worth is the same as all the rest.
One of our kids articulated our philosophy perfectly a few years ago; “When other kids were learning the value of a dollar, you were teaching us that you can’t put a price on fun”. I’m not certain the comment was made as a compliment but I took it as one – you really can’t put a price on fun.
I’m getting organized for our trip. The suitcases have been pulled down from the attic, our mouse ears have been dusted and my attitude has been primed – the magic is in the bag. I am ready for fun, seriously.
