My daughter and her husband purchased my house, we signed the deal in January   They have been working steadily toward their move date ever since.  Where it was perhaps a bonus to be able to make some renovations and move things in a little early I fear the benefits have now been outweighed by the fact my exit has been slow.  But we did it. We crammed my lifetime into one room stacked to the ceiling and a sixteen foot trailer – I’m ready to move (sort of).

I get the keys to my new place next week – a moving van and three men will show up first thing in the morning on moving day and by days end all the evidence of my former life should be gone from the house – or almost all of it, I haven’t even started on my garage or garden shed.

We have been living the life of a rubik’s cube for weeks – moving stuff from one place to another to accommodate something only to have to move something else out of the place we wanted to put the stuff we just moved and then finding a home or a box or a garbage bag for the ‘else’ to go….  it’s been tricky.

There are now two complete households under one roof – mine taking up much needed square footage and theirs trying to get settled. We are functioning like mice in a maize, bumping into one another while attempting to be helpful and appear calm…. this has been tricky too.

Inasmuch as the light at the end of the tunnel is bright for both households this mid-section is pretty chaotic. Everyone’s first priority has been to make the move appear smooth to two little girls who are at once excited and nervous, their bedrooms have been made a sanctuary amid the confusion of the rest of the house.

I’ve been watching my daughter and her husband burn their candles at both ends, they are both exhausted.  Their girls have no clue how hard their parents are working, their sides of the cube are set while the rest of the rubik is still being shuffled.  Things are slowly being clicked into place – colors are being matched one box at a time.  It’s happening, the puzzle is coming together and the cube is being solved.
