It turns out that although Disneyland is more than magical it is not very conducive to blog writing. We hit the deck running Friday morning and have been on the go ever since. It’s wonderful. It’s awe inspiring. It’s exhausting. We are high on pixie dust and everyone is still smiling.
Our youngest daughter gets the most out of her children. She is the master of merriment. She has a keen eye for the memory in the making. The magic she creates for her girls lights up a lot of lives and she is generous with the glitter. She and I have been counting down the days to Disney for months. She has been winding her kids up for weeks. The fact one of the girls was going to celebrate her seventh birthday in the land just added to the hype. And then we had a surprise addition to the entourage – Auntie showed up in time for the birthday on Friday morning.
It’s little wonder we are running on fumes.
I feel so blessed. We have the coolest kids. They have grown up to be exactly who we should have known they’d grow up to be. They were loved, so they are loving. They were included, so they are inclusive. They were looked upon as gifts and they have wholeheartedly given their gifts their entire lives. I’m crazy about them, and they are crazy. We are having so much fun.
Our granddaughters are the perfect mix of brave and belief-ery this trip — they have their game on. They are on first name basis with the princesses, best friends with all the characters and tall enough to get to go on the big kid rides. This is a trifecta. This is the best.
Back in the day, when our kids were little, Disneyland was in a bit of a slump — there were days when you could have fired a cannon down Main Street USA and not have hit a soul. It’s a different story today – the cannon could sill come in handy though, if just to clear a path. It’s busy. There is no question who the leader of the pack is; here in the land it isn’t a question of if you will, but how you will, wear the mouse. Mickey is the main man – crowds go wild every time he shows up. He is revered and everyone is eared. Some things never change.
The elephants on the Jungle Cruise still spray water on the safaris, pirates are still living the life in the Caribbean, the Mad Hatter is still mad and A Small World is still the longest ride (ever!). Disneyland is predictable and new depending on whose eyes you are seeing it through. I will never grow weary of this magic.
