A Brilliant Idea — maybe (the birth of paw prints)

I launched this blog just about three months ago. I have built more confidence with every click, like and comment – I am loving this adventure.

Each new post seems to inspire another story or remind me of an old one. This blogging thing has descended on me like a wave – I hope I’m not wearing people out with my posts. Creativity is an ebb and flow thing – the muse is speaking, or she’s not. Right now mine has become a chatterbox, she whispers in my ear on an almost daily basis.

Between writing and posting (and then checking to see if anyone has liked the post), I actually do other stuff. I spend time with my granddaughters, I walk the dogs, I volunteer at the aquarium and I devise ways that I can avoid doing housework. I do a bit of cooking (but I specialize in doing lunch). And while I’m doing all this other stuff I’m keeping my ear to the ground and listening for a story. I’m a multi tasking wizard!

Some days I don’t have to listen very hard – the story jumps up and smacks me in the face. Other days I have to listen closer. Quite often all I have to do to conjure the muse is start; start a story, jot down a thought.

Mindless tasks are a great place to let your mind wander – I get a ton of ideas while walking the dogs (we take the same route to the same park every day). The dogs themselves are inspirational — and herein lies the crux of this post. My posts about Chester and Olive are now floating around on ‘the cloud’ where they will remain for eternity — I have immortalized them (big word – overstatement – but you get the gist). Olive and Chester’s stories will potentially be there to be accessed by my future generations.

This got me thinking about the other dogs I have loved. I have decided to write about them too. They deserve a place on that cloud as well. I plan to introduce my beloved friends in a series called ‘Paw prints on my heart’ and will start posting them intermittently between other ramblings.

For non-dog lovers, don’t worry – this is not turning into a Dog Blog. To dog-lovers, be warned — each of these posts ends in a ‘fade to black’ moment. I shed a few tears while writing about these friends but the tears were those of gratitude more than grief. Time is a magician – once the sting of loss subsides you can use time as a filter and look back over the years with fondness. That’s the thing about memories – you can re-wind the tape and play them again. I am thankful for my memories, I am thankful for those dogs.

These friends are no longer with us in the physical sense but they were loved in the same fashion as they are missed, greatly.

Stayed tuned for a meandering walk through the mists of my memory.
